CALDER, Alexander
1898-1976; American sculptor and painter, studied art in New York, first Paris exhibition 1929, recognised for his wire figures and portraits in Paris and New York; later famed for his mobiles and stabiles, some of which are of very large dimensions, also his animobiles which feature in many of the lithographs he made for Derrière le Miroir; his mobiles were among the forerunners of Kinetic Art. Many important exhibitions in Europe and New York.
