MIRÓ, Joan
1893 - 1983, Spanish; celebrated painter born in Barcelona, attracted to Paris where much of his later work was exhibited. His work combines the figurative and the Surrealist and is immediately recognisable for its vivid colouring, often much plagiarised for touristic purposes. His work contains elements of Primitivism and a personal fascination with magic and abstraction which removes it from all conventional classification.
